Why and why?

Well, the reason why I started this blog is because we've decided to start a very long journey.  One that I know is going to be SO well worth it.  We've been on a few journeys before.  All with their own ups and downs.  But it always turns out OK...and sometime more than OK.  Sometimes perfect.  We've decided to adopt a child from South Korea.  "What?!?!"  I can hear what you're thinking and sometimes I think the same thing.  But once we made the final decision and sent in our initial application I knew it was the exact right thing to do.  It felt like ten tons were lifted of my shoulders.  So why have we decided to adopt?  Well....getting pregnant is not an easy thing for everyone.  We tried and tried and then got very lucky with our first round of IVF.  Kinley Grace is the light of our life.  And she is a TRUE miracle.  There is no doubt about that.  But after trying and trying again and a failed IVF (not to mention tens of thousands of dollars), I can't keep waiting and spending money with no guarentee that I'll get anything in return.  And not just anything!  A child!  Our child!  Is that so much to ask?!  An easy conception and an easy pregnancy?!  I don't understand why it has to be so difficult for us.  Anyway, I'm not going to give the infertility crap another thought.  We will try again to have a biological child but that's not what our focus is now.  Our focus now is to do all that we can on our end to bring home our beautiful daughter or son and a sister or brother for Kinley.

So what does that entail?  Lots and lots of paperwork and waiting.  I'm usually a doer.  I want to do anything I can to get things moving and done.  Not with adopting.  I want all of the doing done so we can start waiting.  Now, usually I HATE waiting.  But if we're waiting we're closer to being done.  So what we've done so far is sent in our initial application to Holt International, emailed family and house pics, and also emailed tax forms.  I received a call today from Holt with the name and number of a local agency that will set us up with a social worker so we can start our home study.  The dreaded home study!  It's basically a bunch of paperwork and intruding questions and visits from your social worker.  They want to know everything about you, your childhood, your parents and how they raised you, your relationship with your husband or wife, any children in the home and how you are raising them, religious beliefs, community involvment, on and on and on.  Anyway, I'm just ready to get it started.  I hope it goes quickly and smoothly.  Please pray that for us.

So this is our Journey to Forever.  We can't wait to be someone's forever family, and we hope all our friends and family share our excitement and wishes.
